Meet Tatenda Mazambani ,a Science and Tech enthusiast

I’m Tatenda Mazambani, a Science and Tech enthusiast who is on a mission to awaken the African Giant. My journey in STEM began at the age of 9, with a model reservoir I constructed to periodically water my small garden at home on its own. All i had to do was fill it up once a week. Why did i do all that? It was to solve a problem, I saw fetching water and watering the garden myself as a laborious task so I was eager to find a better way of lightening the task. Can you see the beauty of science? How applicable it is in our daily lives and its role in advancing mankind!

Since then I have independently worked on 3 projects, all with the same goal in mind, to solve a problem whilst ensuring sustainability of the economy and the environment. All 3 have won multiple awards at leading Science Fairs, including; gold and bronze medal from Africa science buskers festival and Broadcom Foundation (2021), Junior Medical Academy Ambassadorship Award and UltraMed Healthcare Award (2022) and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Science Champion Award (Zim Science Fair 2023). I have also participated in the NASA Space Apps Challenge and worked on a team to come up with a long lasting energy source for rovers suitable for use on Venus expeditions. My most recent research in clean sustainable energy production from a local aquatic plant called Azolla F. (Applicable for home and institution setups and spacecraft) qualified for selection as a finalist for the world’s biggest pre-college science competition, International Science and Engineering Fair and I will be representing Zimbabwe, Southern Africa as a member of the Zim delegation in Dallas, USA this May. That means that 9 year-old curious child is in the top 1800 young scientists and is competing with brilliant scientists from all over the globe!

It is to my great delight to see my home country making waves on the international arena, not only limited to the Earth but in Space Exploration.

I strongly believe that it is essential for us to get ahead in space travel as well which is why I highly commend Milestone College for fostering a club to advance that goal. With supportive mentors like Dr Stewert Mderere, we are definitely breaking into new dimensions and pushing past extra-terrestrial boundaries! The possibilities in STEM are limitless so go ahead and do it, even if it means you’re doing in scared.

                                                                                                  MEET TAFADZWA BANGA

I had the pleasure of hosting a science club of high school students at my workplace recently, and it was truly inspiring to see their enthusiasm for science and technology. The students were engaged and asked insightful questions about the work we do, demonstrating a genuine interest in the field. It was clear that the science club had provided them with a valuable opportunity to explore their interests and gain exposure to the STEM field. As someone who works in the STEM field, it was heartening to see young people eager to learn and pursue careers in these areas. It is essential to support and encourage students who are interested in STEM, as they will be the ones driving innovation and progress in the years to come. The science club’s visit was a reminder of the importance of investing in educational programs and initiatives that foster a love of science and technology in young people.

Thank you for sending your students to our event, they are very impressive youth. We loved hearing their presentation and think their peers learned a lot from them as well.

In the future we are also going to host more events, so we’d love to have you join us or even potentially host an event at your institute to encourage students who are also non-computer science students to learn more about careers in tech.

We have a tailored course to help students join the AI space and we also have a platform which we would like to discuss the offering if you have the time
